MOGADISHU, Somalia – Kenya’s new ambassador to Somalia, Cyprian Kubai Iringo presented his credentials to President Hassan Sheikh on Sunday at Villa Somalia.

During their meeting, both reaffirmed their commitment to deepen and expand the relationship between the two countries for mutual benefit, according to Villa Somalia.

This marked Kiringo’s first engagement with the Somali president since his appointment by President William Ruto in October 2023.

Kenya and Somalia have been working to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties, including the recent resumption of direct Kenya Airways flights to Mogadishu and Somalia’s admission to the East African Community.

Trade between the countries has grown, with Kenya’s exports to Somalia increasing by 51.4% in the nine months to September 2023 compared to the same period the previous year.

Kenya shares a long border with Somalia, where its troops have been battling against Al-Shabaab since 2011. The two countries agreed to work together on counterterrorism.
