BELEDWEYNE [SMN] – A heavy Fighting broke out this morning in Beledweyne, the capital of Hiran region.
The fighting took place inside Beledweyne police station between the police forces operating in the town and the recently deployed Haram’ad elite forces.
Beledweyne police station commander Mohamed Hussein Mohamud Durdage, who was inside the station at the time of the shooting, was reportedly killed in the clashes.
Credible sources told Shabelle radio that the fighting was sparked by people being detained at the base, which led to an understanding between the two forces.
The situation is tense in Beledweyn, and tensions are running high following the assassination of the town’s police chief.
