President Hassan Sheikh meets with drought committee

MOGADISHU [SMN] – The new President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired a meeting with the Drought Committee to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.

The President was briefed by the committee on the relief efforts and the scale of the drought that affected five million people in southern Somalia.

Also, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is yet to take over the office from Farmajo met today with the United Nations Special Representative to Somalia, Ambassador James Swan.

Swan said he was pleased to meet with the newly elected President in Mogadishu today, and hear the priorities of his incoming administration.

They discussed how best the United Nations can continue to support Somalia and its people during this critical time of drought and insecurity.
