BOSASO, Somalia, Aug 30 – Puntland forces have reported the killing of six suicide bombers during recent clashes with ISIS militants, but the group’s attacks between August 25 and 27 resulted in the deaths of at least 23 Puntland soldiers.

The casualties came after a series of deadly attacks launched by ISIS against Puntland security forces, with the insurgents carrying out a suicide bombing campaign targeting military positions.

Intelligence sources indicate that the ongoing joint operations between Puntland and US forces have been focusing on high-ranking ISIS leaders.

Among those targeted are ISIS deputy leader, Ciise Fahiye, and the global head of ISIS, Abdulqadir Muumin, who is believed to be hiding in the mountainous regions of Puntland.

Despite the significant losses inflicted on ISIS in early 2025, including crippling their military capabilities and finances, the terror group remains resilient and continues to carry out deadly assaults.
