Puntland opposition accuses outgoing president of plotting extension

GAROWE, Somalia – The Puntland opposition alliance has announced that they will not accept a one-person, one-vote election in the region at the end of the mandate of Deni.

In a joint communique, they said that the formation of the Puntland Election Committee [PEC] was done illegally, therefore it has no legal basis to hold a credible election.

The opposition said that Deni wants an arbitrary sentence and an extension of time that is not in accordance with the constitution, which they say is a threat to the peace of Puntland.

The opposition called on the international community not to support what they called the boom and illegal expansion period.

They sent a special message to the United Arab Emirates that trains UAE, which the opposition accused of being used by President Deni to hijack the upcoming election.

The opposition said that if President Deni continues with the steps they described as illegal, they will appoint a committee to select the parliament and resolve the election disputes.
