ISTANBUL — Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met Turkey’s defence industries chief Haluk Görgün in Istanbul during the SAHA 2026 exhibition, Somali officials said on Wednesday.
The talks focused on defence and security cooperation, military capacity-building and strategic efforts aimed at strengthening Somalia’s defence capabilities, according to a statement from the Somali government.
The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation between Somalia and Turkey in areas including military training, defence technology development and broader security support.
The meeting comes as Somalia seeks to deepen international partnerships and modernise its security and defence institutions amid ongoing efforts to combat militant threats and improve national stability.
