MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation has expressed regret over a “tragic incident” that occurred on Tuesday in Dhahar district, located in the contested Sanaag region.
In an official statement, the federal government said it was deeply saddened by the incident, offering condolences to those affected and expressing solidarity with the local population.
“The Federal Government of Somalia is saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place today in Dhahar district, Sanaag region. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the people of Dhahar,” the statement read.
The ministry did not provide details on the nature of the incident or the parties involved but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace, reconciliation, and national unity across all regions.
The statement also called on local actors to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions, emphasizing that the federal government remains ready to support dialogue and peaceful solutions to ongoing disputes in the region.
