Somali forces repel Al-Shabaab attack in Galgadud region

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A fierce fighting between the government forces and Al-Shabaab happened in Osweine, which is 20km away from El Dheer district in the Galgaduud region.

 

The battle came after members of the Al-Shabaab launched an attack on the military bases in the area, which was recently recaptured by the SNA troops along with local militia.

The reports from the central region indicate there were airstrikes against the Al-Shabaab in the village, but the official losses resulting from the clashes are not yet known.

“This morning, our brave SNA & local heroes successfully foiled an Al-Shabaab attack on the recently liberated Cawayswayne village. Having prior intel on the impending Khawarij assault, our forces faced off against the attackers, neutralizing their VBIEDs,” said the defense ministry.

The current war in ​​the Galgaduud region is coming to an end, as the government forces and the local residents took control of the Elbur district on Friday following days of attacks.

Elbur which lies 400 km north of Mogadishu, the Somali capital has been controlled by Al-Shabaab since 2017. Its capture is major blow to Al-Shabaab, which faces battle defeats.
