MOGADISHU – Somalia’s deputy army commander for ground forces, Abdullahi Hussein Adan, chaired a security meeting focused on strengthening stability and coordination among security agencies in the Bay region, officials said on Monday.
The meeting brought together senior commanders from Somalia’s military, police, intelligence and prison services operating in the southwestern region.
Among those attending were the commander of the Somali National Army’s 60th Division, regional police commanders, officials from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), and other senior security officers.
Discussions centered on tightening security in Bay region, improving cooperation between the various branches of the armed forces and accelerating operations against the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab.
Adan, commonly known as Ciro, praised security officials for their role in maintaining stability and urged them to intensify efforts to improve overall security and combat Al-Shabaab activities in the region.
Somalia has stepped up military offensives against Al-Shabaab in several central and southern regions with support from local militias and international partners.
