ADEN YABAAL, Somalia – The prime minister of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre paid a surprise visit to a newly captured Town in Middle Shabelle region on Wednesday.
The PM accompanying by lawmakers and leader of Hirshabelle state Ali Gudlawe met local clan fighters and government forces who jointly liberated Aden Yabaal from AlShabaab last year.
Barre said his government will deliver basic services to the local community, including health and education as well as rebuild roads.
The town, in the Middle Shabelle region, had been a base for the Islamist group since 2016. Somali people used to be summoned to the town and harassed, but Mohamud said al-Shabab vacated it and they did not try to resist the takeover.
Security analysts say the capture of Adan Yabal was not only a victory for the Somali government, but confirmed that the collaboration between government forces and clan militia is working.
The visit by the PM which becomes the second since early this year comes as top leaders are in the frontline zones to energize the troops fighting against Al-Shabaab.
President Hassan Sheikh is in Dhusamareb, Galmudug for months to mobilize the community to take part the war on AlShabab.
