Somali President heads to Adan Yabaal to speed up war on Al-Shabaab

MAHAS, Somalia – The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is currently in Mahas town is expected to visit Adan Yabaal, within the same Middle Shabelle region.

 

The president aims to accelerate the battle against Al-Shabaab and liberate the areas still remaining under the control of the militant group, including Galmudug, HirSabelle, Jubaland, and Southwest States.

According to the sources, Mohamud will meet with army officers in Adan Yabaal who have recently been liberated from Al-Shabaab early this year after 16 years in full control.

The President of Hirshabelle, Ali Gudlawe Hussein is anticipated to accompany the head of state in the trip and will jointly work on intensifying the war against Al-Shabaab in his region.

The president has been in the Galmudug capital of Dhusamareeb for about a month, and since his arrival there, the army liberated Elbur and other key areas in Galgadud but retreated recently in the government termed as a war strategy.

Mohamud wants the local people and leaders of regional states to participate in the struggle to free Somalia from Al-Shabaab, according to the presidency, Villa Somalia.
