ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh received at his hotel residence in Addis Ababa the ambassadors of the Arab League member states in Ethiopia.
Villa Somalia said Hassan Sheikh discussed the Arab diplomats about the bilateral relations, the current situation of the Horn of Africa, and the global issues.
The president commended the ambassadors for their solidarity with Somalia in defending its sovereignty after Ethiopia signed a Red Sea MoU with the breakaway Somaliland state.
Somalia became the first country from East Africa to contest for a non-permanent UN Security Council seat for 2025 and 2026 with the support of the Arab League countries.
The meeting in Addis Ababa came as President Hassan Sheikh was attending the 37th session of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa which brought together 37 leaders.
The deputy Somali PM Salah Ahmed Jama and the country’s ambassador to Ethiopia Abdullahi Mohamed Warfaa were in attendance at the talks with the Arab ambassadors.
