Somali president meets with SSC-Khatumo in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of Somalia received at the presidential palace in Mogadishu on Friday the leader of SSC-Khatumo Abdiqadir Ahmed Firdhiye.

 

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud together with Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre was briefed on the current humanitarian situation in SSC regions after an 8-month war with Somaliland.

The leader of SSC-Khatumo urged the federal government to recognize the SSC-Khatumo as a Federal Member State, which is the aspiration of the people in LasAnod city.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said in a statement that the community living in SSC Khatumo today needs to focus on maintaining peace, social harmony, and stability.

Firdhiye is currently waiting for a financial allocation from the federal government to facilitate the activities of his new administration, which faces the threat of a counter-attack.

Since February 6, there has been fighting in Las Anod between forces in the self-declared state of Somaliland and local militia from the Dhulbahante clan in northern Somalia.
