DOHA [SMN] – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived on Tuesday evening, May 15, in Doha on an official visit to the country.
The president and the accompanying delegation were received upon arrival at Hamad International Airport by Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia HE Abdullah bin Salem Al Nuaimi, and Charge d’Affairs at the Somali Embassy to the State of Qatar HE Ruun Said Korshel.
The Somali president and Qatari emir are expected to meet on Wednesday to discuss enhancing ties in the areas of security and economic cooperation, according to the sources.
Qatar developed ties with Somalia during Farmajo’s presidency and is now seeking closer cooperation with Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration in charge of the country.
The two countries formally established relations in 1970 and are both members of the Arab League.
