MOGADISHU, Somalia – The security forces in the Dolow district of the Gedo region successfully intercepted a car loaded with explosives from the Al-Shabaab militant group.

The SNA troops had prior information about the car packed with ammunition, guns, and materials meant to carry out a bomb attack in Dolow on the Somalia-Kenya border.

The commissioner of Dolow, Mohamed Hussein thanked the security forces for averting the explosive-laden vehicle and urged the public not to panic as the threat is now ‘neutralized’.

The police and security forces in the district continue their work and show more diligence and vigilance to prevent Al-Shabaab from conducting attacks in the city, the Gedo region.

The seizure of the car bomb coincides with an increased bomb and gun attacks by Al-Shabaab, targeting Dhusamareb and other areas in Hiraan, Mudug, and Galgaduud regions.

Last week, security forces prevented double suicide car bomb attacks targeting Dhusamareb, a town some 280 kilometers to the north of Mogadishu, killing the drivers of two vehicles loaded with explosives.

Thursday’s blast comes days after an explosives-laden vehicle detonated at a security checkpoint in the central Somalia city of Beledweyne, killing at least 18.

The Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabab has threatened violence against clans mobilizing against them in the past. Since last year, the SNA along with clan fighters retook key areas from Al-Shabaab.
