Somalia and Iraq Strengthen Ties in Security and Counterterrorism Cooperation

BAGHDAD, Iraq – The Federal Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), held a meeting today with Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qasim Al-Araji.

 

The discussion focused on fostering collaboration in security matters, counterterrorism efforts, and strengthening bilateral relations, according to a statement released by Somalia’s state media.

During the meeting, both sides explored ways to enhance cooperation in security operations and military training, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts to promote regional stability and peace.

Minister Abdullahi expressed gratitude to Iraq’s National Security Advisor for the support and expertise extended to Somalia, underlining the significance of continued collaboration. In turn, Qasim Al-Araji reiterated Iraq’s commitment to assisting Somalia, particularly in technical expertise, training programs, and combating terrorist groups.

This meeting marks a significant step toward deepening ties between the two nations in addressing shared security challenges and advancing peace in the region.
