Somalia and Kenya conclude a two-day Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) meeting.

Nairobi, Kenya – Today, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre delivered a keynote address at the bilateral meeting of the Kenya-Somalia Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC), held in Nairobi.

 

The Prime Minister extended gratitude to His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua, Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, esteemed members of cabinet, parliamentarians, ambassadors, and high-level officials in attendance, for a highly successful event.

In his opening remarks, H.E Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre emphasized the enduring friendship and historical ties shared between Somalia and Kenya, underscoring the two countries’ joint commitment to regional stability, prosperity, and the progress of the global south, affirming Somalia’s dedication to active participation in the integration of East Africa.

Reflecting on progress achieved through the previous sessions of the JCC, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre commended efforts made by both countries, highlighting the cooperative strides made in enhancing foreign relations, security, economy, trade and social affairs.

The Prime Minister expressed heartfelt sympathy with victims of the recent devastating floods in Kenya, extending a message of condolences to the leadership and people of Kenya regarding those affected, acknowledging the shared challenges posed by climate change.

On his part, Deputy President, H.E Rigathi Gachagua expressed profound satisfaction with the blossoming diplomatic relations between the countries. The DP further commended Somali Government’s recent achievements in attaining the completion point of debt relief efforts, the lifting of arms embargo, the fast-tracking of the fight against terrorist groups and the joining of the East Africa Community block.

During the JCC session, senior government officials of both countries engaged in constructive discussions, reviewing achievements thus far and exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation across various sectors. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of translating commitments into concrete actions that benefit both nations.

In concluding his address, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre thanked participants for their dedication and reiterated the importance of continued collaboration to achieve shared goals and successes.

The meeting concluded with optimism for the future and a commitment to further strengthen ties between Kenya and Somalia.
