MOGADISHU, June 18 – Somalia’s cabinet on Thursday condemned a visit by Somaliland leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, known as Cirro, to what it described as Palestinian territory occupied by Israel, saying the move violated Somalia’s constitution and international law.

Meeting under Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the cabinet said the visit by the leader of the breakaway region ran counter to principles of state sovereignty and the rights of oppressed peoples.

The ministers also reviewed reports on national security, the economy and social conditions, as well as statistical updates on the 2025-2026 national examinations for middle and secondary schools.

Briefings were presented on preparations for celebrations marking Somalia’s independence and unification anniversaries and on the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Somalia, which focuses on national development priorities.

The cabinet praised the completion of one-person, one-vote elections in South West State and commended Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji, who served as interim leader during the transition and electoral process.

Ministers also lauded security forces for thwarting attempts to undermine stability in the capital, Mogadishu, and maintaining security gains.

The cabinet approved, by majority vote, the appointment of senior lawyer Mohamed Hassan Nur to the Independent National Human Rights Commission, filling a vacancy left by a departing member after what officials described as an open and competitive selection process.
