DOHA, Qatar — Somalia has highlighted its growing investment opportunities at the ninth World Investment Forum (WIF 2026) in Doha, with State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ali Mohamed Omar, known as Ali Balcad, calling for stronger partnerships with international investors and the private sector.
Omar took part in a high-level panel discussion focused on the role of private-sector investment in financing development in emerging and developing economies.
During the discussion, the Somali official presented Somalia as a country with expanding investment opportunities, pointing to the completion of the country’s debt relief process and the introduction of a new Investment Law as important steps towards improving the investment climate.
He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with investors and private businesses to mobilise effective financing for national development and economic growth.
Somalia has been working to rebuild its economy and attract foreign investment following years of conflict and economic challenges. Debt relief has been a key milestone in efforts to restore financial credibility and expand access to international development financing.
The government has also sought to improve the regulatory environment for businesses and encourage private-sector participation in key areas of the economy.
Omar’s participation at the forum provided an opportunity to present Somalia’s economic priorities and engage with international stakeholders on potential investment partnerships.
The World Investment Forum brings together government officials, investors, business leaders and development partners to discuss investment strategies and financing solutions, particularly for countries seeking to accelerate sustainable development.
The Somali delegation’s message centred on the importance of closer collaboration between the government, private investors and international partners to unlock investment opportunities and support long-term economic growth.
No specific investment agreements or financial commitments resulting from the discussion were announced in the statement.
