MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama on 25 August 2026 opened a business forum in Mogadishu aimed at strengthening commercial ties between Somalia and China and attracting investment to the Horn of Africa nation.
The Somalia-China Business Networking Forum brought together government officials, diplomats, business leaders and investors from both countries.
Organised by Somalia’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the event was attended by federal ministers, Somalia’s ambassador to China, representatives of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the China-Africa Chamber of Commerce, as well as companies and investors.
Jama urged Chinese businesses and investors to explore Somalia’s expanding investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure, manufacturing, fisheries, agriculture, energy, transport and logistics.
He said stronger commercial ties between Somalia and China should help create jobs, increase investment and boost domestic production as the government seeks to accelerate economic development.
Somalia has sought to attract greater foreign investment as it works to rebuild infrastructure and expand productive sectors after decades of conflict and political instability.
China is one of Somalia’s key international partners and has supported development and infrastructure projects in the country as part of its broader engagement with Africa.
