NEW YORK, United States — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Somalia’s presidency said.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, as well as regional developments and the evolving security situation in the Middle East.
Hassan Sheikh stressed the importance of the longstanding relationship between Somalia and Kuwait, according to a statement issued after the meeting.
He called for broader cooperation between the two countries, particularly in security, diplomacy and development, the statement said.
The talks came as world leaders and senior officials gathered in New York for the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly, with regional conflicts and security concerns dominating discussions.
The Somali president and the Kuwaiti crown prince also discussed developments in the region and issues affecting stability in the Middle East.
Somalia and Kuwait have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations, with the two countries cooperating on political, economic and development issues.
The meeting was part of Hassan Sheikh’s diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where Somalia is seeking to strengthen international partnerships and discuss regional and global issues with foreign leaders.
The presidency did not provide further details on specific agreements reached during the meeting.
