MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh met Norway’s ambassador to Somalia, Kenya and Seychelles, Siv Cathrine Moe, and senior embassy officials in Mogadishu to discuss strengthening economic cooperation and financial reforms.
The talks focused on efforts to support Somalia’s economic development and accelerate key reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s financial system, according to a statement from the Somali Ministry of Finance.
The two sides also discussed ways to expand development cooperation between Somalia and Norway, with particular attention to sustainable economic growth and development initiatives.
The meeting forms part of ongoing cooperation between Mogadishu and Oslo on economic development and efforts to strengthen Somalia’s public financial management systems.
Somalia has been pursuing a series of financial and economic reforms aimed at improving public revenue collection, strengthening financial institutions and building systems capable of supporting sustainable economic growth.
International partners, including Norway, have supported Somalia’s broader development and institution-building efforts as the country works to strengthen its economy and public institutions.
The meeting between Egeh and Moe also provided an opportunity to review areas where bilateral cooperation could support Somalia’s economic priorities and ongoing financial reforms.
The Somali government has placed economic development and improvements to public financial management among its key priorities, alongside efforts to strengthen domestic institutions and expand opportunities for sustainable growth.
No new agreement or specific financial commitment was announced following the meeting.
The talks are part of regular engagement between Somali authorities and Norway on development and economic issues, as Mogadishu seeks continued international support for reforms designed to strengthen the country’s financial and economic foundations.
