Somalia, UN discuss UNTMIS transition

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, known as Ali Balcad, on Wednesday met with a United Nations delegation led by the acting head of the UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), Raisedon Zenenga.

The meeting, which was also attended by UNTMIS Head of Political and Mediation Affairs Vikram Parekh, focused on the transition process of UNTMIS and continued coordination and cooperation between Somalia’s federal government and the United Nations.

Omar said the Somali government was committed to ensuring that the transition remained Somali-led and Somali-owned, with international support continuing to align with the country’s national priorities and responsibilities.

The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and cooperation to support stability in Somalia and strengthen government institutions.
