DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – Salah Ahmed Jama, the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia touched down in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, just after a foiled car bomb attack.

Jama was received at the airport by Galmudug Vice President Ali Dahir Eid and other regional officials upon arrival. The DPM is accompanied by Somali Finance Minister Bihi Iman Cige and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Hirsi Gani, Security Adviser to the Prime Minister Kamal Gutale, and other officials.

The delegation will join other top leaders in the central city, including President Hassan Sheikh and parliament leadership on the acceleration of operations against Al-Shabaab.

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been stationed in the town for over two months with an aim to coordinate the war on Al-Shabaab.

On Thursday morning, government troops managed to avert two car bomb attacks at a security checkpoint and the airport. If happened, the attack would be a devastating one.

It’s the second attempt by Al-Shabaab to target top Federal and regional leaders. A week ago, Galmudug president Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor-Qoor survived a car bomb attack on the Las-Ga’amey area.

The presidential guards of Galmudug state of Somalia thwarted the attack which left two lawmakers wounded while dozens of soldiers lost their lives. It took place during a major offensive.
