Somalia’s PM Speaks on UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

New York – In the 78th UN General Assembly session, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of Somalia presented on the nation’s progress with the SDGs.

 

He covered the nation’s ongoing security, economic, and political shifts. HE Hamza shared updates on Somalia’s SDG efforts, stressing the government’s dedication to the country’s peace, prosperity, and security. Challenges like poverty, conflict, and climate change were acknowledged.

Prime Minister Hamza revealed that Somalia’s National Development Plan aligns with the UN’s SDGs, boasting reductions in poverty by 15% and maternal mortality by 43%, and raising women’s literacy rate to 12.4% since 2017.

Detailing future plans, he spoke of enhancing living standards, focusing on education quality and accessibility, and introducing innovative schools. He also emphasized boosting agricultural productivity using advanced techniques to counteract the impacts of climate change, and vowed Somalia’s active role in global SDG efforts.

He also underscored their commitment to human rights, particularly eradicating Female Genital Mutilation and ensuring women play a significant role in leadership.
