MOGADISHU, Somalia – Politicians from the Southwest continue to hold political gatherings and conduct where they criticize the state of the government.
Members of the opposition who oppose President Laftagareen met today in Mogadishu, with Michael Nithavrianakis, the British ambassador to Somalia, to address matters pertaining to the situation in the nation, particularly in the Southwest region of Somalia.
According to reports, opposition members spoke with the ambassador about matters pertaining to the fight against Al-Shabaab, the elections in the southwest, and the execution of the accord struck in Baidoa, the regional headquarters of the Bay.
In order to resolve the current conflict between the opposition and President Laftagareen, they also asked that the members of the international community play a role in assisting with a general election in the South West.
Prior to this, MPs from the South West conducted a number of meetings in the cities of Mogadishu and Nairobi, where they criticized the South West administration’s procedures and claimed that there was little preparation for the impending elections.
However, these members, who arrived in Dhusamareeb yesterday, made a plea for the South West elections to be held to President Hassan Sheikh.
