BAIDOA, Somalia – The President of the Southwest state received at his office in Baidoa the Federal Ministers of Livestock and Agriculture, who are on a working visit to his regional state.
Abdulaziz Laftagareen held a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Ahmed Madobe Nuunow, and the Minister of Livestock Hassan Hussein Mohamed Eeley, who hail from Southwest State and were elected last year as members of the Somali parliament.
The regional leader shared with the team a detailed report on the current drought situation in Southwest State and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the concerned fields.
The ministers announced the government would carry out the implementation of various projects aimed at uplifting the life of the people in the Southwest after the severe drought.
Laftagareen thanked the Ministers for their visit to Baidoa and noted that it is important to implement the projects that farmers and herders need most at this critical and testing time.
The delegation visited the city for the acceleration of the planned development of projects in the regions under Southwest State, mainly the Bay and Bakool regions, the most drought-hit areas in southern Somalia.
Baidoa is Somalia’s epicenter of drought, and the city is surrounded by Al-Shabab militants as it is at the heart of Somalia’s worst drought in 40 years. Aid groups warn of impending famine. “The needs are overwhelming,”.
