Suspected US airstrike kills at least 30 Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The forces of the federal government of Somalia with the help of international partners have carried out a planned operation against the Al-Shabaab group in the Jilib Marka area of ​​the Lower Shabelle region.

 

Jilib Marka area is one of the localities under Marka City, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle, which shares a border with the capital, Mogadishu.

A statement from the Federal Government said that 30 members of the Al-Shabaab were killed in the joint operation, which comes amid an intensified offensive against the militants.

“This operation which started early this morning, the national forces and the international friends targeted a place where the militants were gathering, whose information was obtained, while a military weapon used in the war was seized, as confirmed by the national media officers of this operation. ah” was said in the statement issued by the government.

On the other hand, the government forces and the residents last night conducted a planned operation in the areas called Farah Aaden and Jawle, which is one of the areas under the Harardhere district of the Mudug region.

The general secretary of Harar Dheere district, Maslah Macalin, told the government media that members of Al-Shabaab, including leaders and militias, were killed in the operation last night, but he did not say how many.

The government forces and the international friends who support the airstrikes have increased the operations against the Al-Shabaab group in recent days.
