The European Union donates nearly $100 million aid to Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The European Union has announced 94.69 million dollars in aid to Somalia, of which 21.16 million is intended to support the government’s budget.

 

“The European Union has a strong partnership with Somalia and supports the country in several areas, including state rebuilding efforts,” said Jutta Urpilainen, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama thanked the European Union for this support, saying that this will strengthen the cooperation.

He added that the financial aid further developed the economy of Somalia and efforts to rebuild the country after three decades of conflict, which claimed the lives of thousands.

The financial package announced by the European Union, came after the Cabinet of Ministers of Somalia passed the 2024 government budget.

The government budget reached one billion dollars this year after economic reform in line with the debt relief. The government said there has been an increase in domestic revenue.
