GAROWE [SMN] –  The UN envoy for Somalia James Swan along with other foreign diplomats on Sunday paid a working visit to the northeastern regional state of Puntland.

During his one-day visit, Swan held a meeting with Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni at the regional presidency and discussed current political and election issues in Somalia.

“The importance of ensuring women’s participation in Somalia’s elections and all aspects of public life, as well as protecting the country’s political space so that all voices are heard and count, were among the topics highlighted by intl. partners on a visit to Garowe today,” UNSOM tweeted.

Puntland has been busy with its local elections in the past few months as the country is in political crisis and standoff between president Farmajo and his PM Mohamed Roble.

The international community reiterated calls to end the differences between the top leaders to avoid violence and a setback to the parliamentary elections.
