US Congress woman Ilhan Omar meets with Somali PM Hamza

NEW YORK, USA – Ilhan Omar, a member of the US Congress has paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre who is currently in New York for the participation of the United Nations General Assembly [UNGA78].

 

The discussions between Barre and Omar focused on Somalia’s security, political landscape, socio-economic progress, and how the US can further strengthen its support for Somalia.

Barre arrived in New York on Monday, to attend the 78th UN General Assembly. In a bid to discuss key global challenges, PM delivered a compelling address and engaged in fruitful conversations with world leaders.

He covered the nation’s ongoing security, economic, and political shifts. HE Hamza shared updates on Somalia’s SDG efforts, stressing the government’s dedication to the country’s peace, prosperity, and security. Challenges like poverty, conflict, and climate change were acknowledged.

Over the years Somalia has been steadily reclaiming its position on the global stage. With support from partners and strong dedication from its leadership, the nation has embarked on significant reforms in governance, economic policies, and security.

The PM’s speech shed light on Somalia’s efforts to address and eradicate the threat posed by Al-Shabaab, which has links with Al-Qaeda and carrying attacks in the Horn of Africa.
