NAIROBI, Kenya – Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a warning to Al-Shabaab vowing to use the country’s forces to ‘hunt them down’.
Speaking during the fourth graduation ceremony of Garissa University, CS Duale recalled the terror attack on the institution in 2015 that claimed the lives of 148 people, lauding the university for the progress made since the attack.
“Garissa has recovered from the terror attack. The university you [Al-Shabaab] wanted to divide among ethnic and religious lines today is not only the best university in the country but has one of the best faculties…we will use our land forces, we will use our navy, we will use our airforce, we will use our special forces to hunt them down both in Kenya and Somalia,” he said.
Attending the graduation as well was Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu who noted that the government has made significant investments in enhancing the security of the university in preventing any future attacks.
“I would like to emphasize that since the tragic incident in 2015, the government has taken extensive measures to bolster security at the university. This includes the establishment of a police camp within the premises, ensuring that the university’s security is effectively reinforced,” he said.
Kenyan troops crossed into Somalia in 2011 to crack down Al-Shabaab following series of abductions against aid workers and attacks in northeastern parts of the country.
