MOGADISHU, Somalia [SMN] – Men armed with pistols killed an elderly man who in the past held a district-level position. The shooting took place in the capital, Mogadishu today.

Faqay Abdulle Mayow, who once served as the deputy commissioner of finance in Awdhiigle district, was attacked by hooded assailants while walking towards his house.

Somali security forces who sealed off the scene removed the body after making a search which ended in failure to detain the murderers, who fled the crime scene immediately.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Shabelle by phone that the place where Mayow was killed is one of the most secure places in Mogadishu. This shows how the security of the city is still fragile.

No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination but police blamed Al-Shabaab for being behind the attack as it marked all the hallmarks of its previous killings.
