Somalia launches probe into a shooting incident at Jowhar airport

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Ministry of Defense said it has started an investigation into the shooting incident at the Jowhar airport that impacted a regional parliament Speaker.

 

In a statement, the Ministry termed the incident as unfortunate and pledged to bring to justice the soldiers who are accused of being responsible for the act that claimed lives.

“When the ongoing investigation is completed, the SNA soldiers behind the act will be brought to justice quickly so that they can be held accountable,” reads the statement.

The Ministry of Internal Security of Hirshabelle has condemned the attack on the convoy escorting the Speaker of the Hirshabelle Parliament, Luqman Haji Mohamud.

The shooting resulted in the death and injuries of the security forces of the Hirshabelle who were part of the team providing protection to the house speaker, who escaped from death.

Reports reached at Radio Shabelle’s news desk indicate that the incident follows the killing of a Danab soldier by HirShabelle state troops and it is attributed to be a revenge action.

The number of fatalities and injuries resulting fromm the latest airport shooting still remain unverified. Danab is an American-trained and funded elite unit part of Somali military.
