MOGADISHU, Somalia – Banadir Regional Court issued an arrest warrant for an official with the Ministry of Finance of Somalia, who is named Abdulkadir Mohamud Ibrahim.

Ibrahim, who is currently on the run, was accused of corruption, misappropriation of public funds, and forging false documents while in charge of the tax in Warta Nabadda district.

The court gave the official 30 days starting from 11 November 2023 to 10 December 2023 to appear before the court in Mogadishu to face the charges brought against him.

The court said that if he does not comply with the court order, legal action will be taken.

This comes amid an ongoing anti-corruption campaign by the current government led by President Hassan Sheikh, which arrested and prosecuted several officials for corruption.

Days ago, the court began hearing officials convicted of corruption, who appealed against the previous ruling.

There are several officials, including Muhiyedin Sabay, the former director of the Eastern Tax Department, Abdulkadir Elmi Ali, the former director of the Immigration, and his predecessor Mohamed Aden Jimale Koofi, who fled from Somalia after an arrest warrant.
