Somali Federal States throw their full weight behind completion of constitutional review

GAROWE, Somalia  – The majority leaders of the Federal States in Somalia have thrown their full weight behind the finalisation of the country’s constitution.

 

Speaking at the presidential inauguration of Said Abdullahi Deni, who won a historic reelection on 8th January 2024, Southwest state leader Abdiaziz Lafta Gareen said: “It’s now the right time to complete the constitution.”

For his part, Galmudug state leader Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor-Qoor said the parliament has taken a good step towards the completion of constitutional review process.

The MPs endorsed the procedural rules of the constitutional amendment that paves the way for Villa Somalia wants to change political system in Somalia.

The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh has defended the constitutional completion process, calling on all leaders to support the move to lead the country to a direct vote after three decades of clan-based system.
