MOGADISHU, Somalia — Traditional elders and intellectuals from the Murusade community issued a strongly worded statement following a consultation meeting held in Mogadishu on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The gathering focused on a reported June 3 incident involving an attack on the residence of a prominent political figure during a high-level reconciliation meeting attended by elders and opposition leaders.
In their statement, the elders described the incident as a serious violation targeting a peace delegation that had been engaged in mediation efforts involving senior political figures and traditional authorities.
They expressed deep concern over the use of heavy weaponry during the operation and said the attack endangered civilians and undermined ongoing reconciliation efforts in the capital, Mogadishu.
