MOGADISHU, Somalia – Poet Nageye Ali Khalif, who has been missing for three months, appeared on Wednesday night for the first time on Al-Shabaab Alfurqaan media.
In a half-hour interview, he said that he had officially declared he joined the Al-Shabaab, stating that he had been satisfied with the group’s ideology before his surprise defection.
The young Poet said that he has been an Al-Shabaab sympathizer since 2017 when he moved from Somaliland, a nearby region in northern Somalia to Mogadishu.
He openly supported the Al-Shabaab war against the Somali government.
Khalif verbally attacked the Somali authorities, describing them as puppets of the West. He said he believes that Al-Shabaab will conquer Somalia as a whole.
Nageya is one of the academics healing from Somalia, who worked as a lecturer at the Somali National University. He was the head of the Department of Journalism.
He is now in Al-Shabaab ranks and his move raised the eyebrows of the government of Somalia, which is at war with the Al-Qaeda-linked group, ideologically, financially, and militarily.
