MOGADISHU, Somalia – The United Nations Office in Somalia UNSOM hailed the arrest of the suspect accused of burning his wife to death, a brutal killing that sparked an outrage.

He was caught by NISA, Federal police, and Galmudug forces as a fugitive in the Mudug region following days of nationwide manhunt.

“The UN welcomes Somalia’s commitment to investigate and prosecute gender-based violations,” the UN office in Somalia said in a statement.

UNSOM urged the government of Somalia to continue taking steps to ensure that those who commit all these crimes are held accountable. The UN also sends its condolences to the family of the late Luul Abdiaziz.

Sayyid Ali Moalin Daoud burned his pregnant wife to death and then fled to the central regions of the country, where he was arrested after a long pursuit while hiding in a forest to escape from the security agencies.
