Somalia and Qatar Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Security, Infrastructure, and Humanitarian Aid

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre received the Qatari Ambassador to Somalia, Abdullah Salem Al Nuaimi, at his office to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two brotherly countries, Somalia and Qatar.

 

The discussions between Prime Minister Barre and Ambassador Al Nuaimi focused on Qatar’s support for Somalia in security, infrastructure, and humanitarian aid. Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties for the mutual benefit of their nations.

This meeting comes as part of a series of engagements between the two countries, aimed at fostering closer cooperation and addressing common challenges. The Federal Republic of Somalia has been actively seeking to attract Qatari investors to support development in the country, with a particular focus on agricultural projects, livestock, and fisheries.

Somalia and Qatar have maintained diplomatic relations since 1970, and both countries are members of the Arab League. The State of Qatar has been a consistent supporter of Somalia in various circumstances, providing aid and support on regional and international platforms.

The meeting between Prime Minister Barre and Ambassador Al Nuaimi signifies a commitment to further strengthen the relationship between Somalia and Qatar, with the aim of promoting stability, development, and prosperity in the region.
