KISMAYO, Somalia — Final preparations are underway in Kismayo, the capital of Somalia’s Lower Jubba region, for the presidential election of the Jubbaland administration set for tomorrow.
The four candidates vying for the presidency addressed the newly formed Jubbaland House of Representatives on Sunday. Among them were incumbent Ahmed Mohamed Islam, known as Ahmed Madobe, Faisal Mohamed Matan, Abubakar Abdi Hassan, and Dr. Abdi Hassan Hajiin.
In his campaign speech, Madobe, who is considered the frontrunner, emphasized his commitment to continuing the development he has spearheaded, promising to guide Jubbaland towards greater progress and prosperity.
He also addressed ongoing tensions with the central government, assuring that if re-elected, he would work towards a formal resolution.
Security measures have been intensified in Kismayo, with additional forces deployed to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
