MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia— A group of 425 Somali pilgrims has arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, marking the second day of their journey to the holy city of Makkah.
These pilgrims are part of a larger group of 11,500 Somalis who will be undertaking the sacred rites of Hajj during the Islamic year 1446.
The Somali Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs confirmed that the total number of Somali pilgrims this year has reached 11,500, with participants arriving from various cities, including Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Garowe, and Kismayo. Their pilgrimage will continue until May 31, 2025.
Every year, a significant number of Somali pilgrims travel to Saudi Arabia to fulfill the religious obligations of Hajj.
However, many have voiced concerns about the living conditions and accommodations provided upon arrival. In the past, the Somali government has intervened to address complaints from pilgrims, ensuring that their concerns are heard.
This year, it is expected that Somali pilgrims will experience improved conditions and better treatment compared to previous years, with the Somali government having taken extra measures to ensure their comfort during the pilgrimage.
