Mogadishu, Somalia — Somalia’s Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, Dr. Elmi Mahmoud Noor, on Thursday officially closed the Second Cycle of the Somalia Resilience to Disasters Conference, jointly organized by the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and Mogadishu University.
The two-day conference, held under the theme “Building Disaster Resilience Through Community-Based Approaches,” brought together government officials, academics, and disaster management experts to discuss strategies for long-term solutions to the country’s recurring natural disasters.
In his closing remarks, Minister Noor highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between government institutions and local communities to mitigate the impact of natural calamities.
He urged Somalis and state agencies to foster self-reliance, unified planning, and early preparedness, emphasizing that only through collective action can the nation build real resilience against the frequent droughts, floods, and other disasters affecting the country.
