MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s Minister of Defence Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met a Turkish delegation led by Ambassador Ali Onaner, Director General of the Africa Department at Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The talks focused on enhancing defence collaboration and military development, underscoring the long-standing security partnership between Mogadishu and Ankara.
The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of Somalia’s Ministry of Defence, Abdifitah Abdulkadir Farah, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Somalia Alper Aktaş, and other senior officials.
Türkiye is a key ally of Somalia and has played a prominent role in training Somali security forces and supporting the country’s efforts to rebuild its national army after decades of conflict.
