Kismayo, Somalia – Security forces from Somalia’s Jubaland state delivered emergency water supplies to dozens of impoverished families in western districts of the port city of Kismayo, as prolonged drought continues to worsen living conditions in the region.
The operation was carried out by officers from the Jubaland Intelligence and Security Agency stationed at the Via-Afmadow checkpoint, a key control point on the road linking Kismayo with other parts of the country.
Communities receiving the water included Bilicsan, Wayyaama-Geeddoow, Dabbiriq, Hadaafoow, Galool-Yaryar and Abaq-Bambaale, areas where severe water shortages have disrupted daily life and increased humanitarian needs, local officials said.
“This initiative reflects the solidarity of the security forces with vulnerable civilians,” said Ahmed Abdulkadir Ali, the security commander at the Via-Afmadow checkpoint, who led the distribution.
He said the Jubaland administration, working with relevant agencies, would continue efforts to deliver urgent assistance to communities hardest hit by drought.
Ali also appealed to humanitarian organisations, business leaders and the wider Somali public to support emergency relief efforts, warning that widespread drought across several regions of Somalia is threatening both human lives and livestock.
