ADDIS ABABA, June 18 – African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on Thursday welcomed a peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a significant step towards reducing regional tensions and promoting stability in the Middle East.
In a statement, Youssouf said the accord demonstrated the power of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international disputes and offered fresh hope for lasting peace and cooperation in a region whose security and prosperity have global significance.
“This agreement demonstrates the power of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and building trust between nations,” he said. “It creates renewed hope for peace, stability and regional cooperation.”
The African Union chief commended all parties involved in securing the agreement and singled out US President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating the process.
He also praised mediation efforts by Pakistan, Oman and Qatar, saying the three countries had played a crucial role in advancing negotiations and fostering confidence between Washington and Tehran.
Youssouf expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for lasting peace, regional stability and stronger international cooperation, reaffirming the African Union’s support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, dialogue and mutual respect among nations.
