DOHA — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in the Qatari capital on Friday for a high-level working visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties across security and economic sectors, his office confirmed.

The president and his delegation were received with a formal welcome in Doha, marking the latest chapter in the strengthening relationship between the Horn of Africa nation and the wealthy Gulf state.

During the visit, Mohamud is scheduled to hold “fruitful meetings” with senior Qatari officials. Discussions are expected to focus on “strengthening cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and politics,” according to a statement from the Somali presidency.

The trip is part of a broader diplomatic offensive by Mohamud to consolidate international support for Somalia’s national interests, specifically regarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and ongoing stability.

The Somali government has been actively seeking to expand its network of international partners, with Qatar being a key ally in the reconstruction of state institutions and providing critical support for development and security initiatives.

Mogadishu’s push for enhanced diplomatic engagement comes as it continues to navigate complex regional challenges and seeks sustained investment for its post-conflict recovery.
