MOGADISHU, Feb 23 — The Sector Five commander of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Oscar Hatungimana, has visited Burundian forward operating bases in the Middle Shabelle region to assess operational readiness and security conditions.
During the visit, Hatungimana evaluated troop preparedness, force protection measures and welfare conditions, with a continued focus on maintaining vigilance against the Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab.
He received operational briefings from base commanders and held meetings with troops on the ground, emphasizing the importance of discipline and resilience, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
The commander praised the Burundian forces for their commitment and efforts, urging them to remain alert, strengthen coordination with Somali security forces and local authorities, and continue prioritizing the protection of civilians throughout the fasting period.
