Bakool and Hudur Officials Denounce Southwest Somalia President’s Authority

HUDUR, Somalia — Officials in Bakool region and Xuddur district have publicly rejected the authority of Southwest State President Abdiaziz Hasan Mohamed (Laftagareen), accusing him of holding office illegally.

In a joint statement, the officials said they fully support Somalia’s federal government and will work directly with it until a legitimate administration is established in Southwest State.

They also expressed backing for the country’s constitution, recently ratified by the Somali Federal President, and called for strict adherence to the rule of law and democratic governance.

The announcement comes amid escalating political tensions between the federal government and Southwest State authorities.

Reports indicate that the unrest has affected regional security, with clashes reportedly occurring between Southwest State’s Darawiish forces and opposition groups allegedly supported by the federal government, though official casualty figures remain unconfirmed.

The standoff appears to be deepening, with some reports suggesting fractures within Southwest State’s security forces, as units align with opposing sides in the political dispute.
