NAIROBI, Kenya — Shabelle TV has been named the Best TV Station of 2025 at the second annual East Africa Somali Awards (EASA), marking a significant regional milestone for the prominent Mogadishu-based broadcaster.
The gala, held in Nairobi, brought together 33 companies and a host of influential leaders to celebrate excellence across sectors, including medicine, technology, media, and hospitality. The awards are designed to recognize outstanding contributions that promote economic growth and professional standards within the Somali community.
The event featured prominent dignitaries, including Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Barre Duale, and Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jibril Ibrahim Abdulle. Both officials offered their congratulations to Shabelle TV, noting its influential role in the regional media landscape.
Ridwan Yusuf, chairman of the East Africa Awards, expressed his pride in the selection, designating Shabelle TV as the premier station in the Horn of Africa. Shabelle TV Deputy Director Mohamud Abdinasir Soofeysane formally accepted the trophy on behalf of the network.
The EASA honor follows a string of recent successes for the Shabelle Media Network (SMN). Last week, the network was also crowned “Best Media of the Year 2025” at the Somali Business Awards in Mogadishu. Organizers of that ceremony cited Shabelle’s consistent reporting and impactful programming regarding security, politics, and state-building as the primary drivers for the win.
Founded in 2002, Shabelle has maintained a reputation for its coverage of Somalia. The network is no stranger to international acclaim; in 2010, Radio Shabelle received the prestigious Media of the Year prize from the Paris-based organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Based in Mogadishu, Shabelle Media Network remains one of Somalia’s most influential news organizations, operating both radio and television outlets serving the Somali diaspora and the Horn of Africa.
